Patients Denied Treatment Due to Siege

Basic medicines including those for the treatment of chronic illnesses and diseases such as cancer, renal and liver diseases are missing. Necessary medical supplies are becoming scarce and constant power cuts are damaging CT scan machines and x-ray equipment at hospitals in Gaza.
Article 24 of the Declaration of Human Rights states: " Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control." Health is not a commodity or a luxury but a basic right.

  1. Sick patients do die and this is a fact. But they die when they are too sick to be treated or when there is not treatment available for their illness. Often, we refer to this as a state of medical futility.
But when treatment is there like in the case of patients who suffer from diabetes, liver problems etc and patients cannot have access to them because of siege, this is an abomination! Medications should be given. Some patients in Gaza are dying because of power cuts! Some hospitals are even bombarded (the poor people do not have the "luxury"
of having their hospitals underground. At times like this, in situations like this, the Declaration of Human Rights becomes a charade. Empty words that mean nothing. I urge the United Nations to reconsider its role and its existence. Health is not a luxury. Those who play with the right to life are accountable. I urge those who can do something to act. If only the sleepers wake up and the Arab conscience wakes up.

They will die without medication or become ill. What is the minstry of health doing? what is the WHO doing? they talk only. Wait till before the election. things change in EVERY COUNTRY. it is a sad sad situation like the song goes.
